City Council votes down business head tax

This just in from the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce:

The Seattle City Council voted 5-4 to reject a head tax on businesses. For the past seven months, our staff and members have consistently pointed out that implementing the City’s labor laws—an important function that we support—is a core city responsibility that should be paid for by the City’s general fund.

Thank you to Mayor Ed Murray, Council President Bruce Harrell, Council Budget Chair Tim Burgess and Councilmembers Sally Bagshaw, Rob Johnson and Debora Juarez for their actions in support of this position.
